Understanding Your Health Numbers
Regular health monitoring helps detect problems early. This tool gives you quick feedback on three key indicators: blood pressure, blood sugar, and fever. Remember: this is not a medical diagnosis – always consult a doctor for abnormal readings.
Blood Pressure (BP) Guidelines
- Normal: Systolic <120 and Diastolic <80 (e.g., 115/75).
- Elevated: Systolic 120-129 and Diastolic <80.
- High BP (Hypertension Stage 1): 130-139 / 80-89.
- Hypertension Stage 2: ≥140 / ≥90.
- Hypertensive Crisis: >180 / >120 – seek emergency care.
Blood Sugar (Fasting) Guidelines
- Normal: 70-99 mg/dL.
- Prediabetes: 100-125 mg/dL – lifestyle changes can reverse it.
- Diabetes: ≥126 mg/dL (confirmed by two tests).
- Post-meal sugar should be <140 mg/dL.
Fever (Temperature) Guidelines
- Normal body temperature: 97°F to 99°F (36.1°C to 37.2°C).
- Low-grade fever: 99°F to 100.4°F (37.2°C to 38°C).
- Fever: 100.4°F to 103°F – rest and hydrate.
- High fever: ≥103°F – consult doctor.
Tips for Accurate Measurements
- Measure BP after resting for 5 minutes, avoid caffeine/smoking 30 mins before.
- Check blood sugar fasting (8+ hours without food) for accurate diagnosis.
- Use a digital thermometer under the tongue for 2-3 minutes.
- Track readings over time – one high reading doesn't mean disease.
