Getting Better Answers From Any Chat Model
Give the model a role and a goal in the same breath. 'You are a tax accountant explaining to a first-time freelancer' produces a different and usually far more useful answer than the same question asked cold, because it constrains vocabulary, depth and assumptions all at once.
Iterate instead of restarting. When an answer misses, reply with what specifically was wrong rather than rewriting the question from scratch. Conversations converge on what you wanted; repeated cold starts circle around it.
Ask for the reasoning when the answer matters. Requesting the steps or the assumptions makes errors visible, and it is far easier to spot a wrong assumption than a wrong conclusion presented confidently.
Knowing the Limits Before They Cost You
Models have a training cutoff and cannot check anything after it unless they are actively searching the web. Pricing, product features, current events and anything regulatory are the areas where confident but outdated answers cause real problems.
Long conversations drift. Details from early on get progressively less weight, so for anything precise it is better to restate the key constraints than to assume they are still being honoured twenty messages later.
Never paste anything you would not send to a stranger. Free tiers commonly use conversations for training, and once submitted there is no practical way to retract it.
